English Language Course Content
A Level English Language allows you to creatively and critically engage with various texts while building on your GCSE skills. You’ll explore spoken and written language in different contexts, focusing on:
- Analysing and comparing texts
- The mechanics of spoken language and relevant theories
- Language variation related to identity, social groups, gender, power, accent, and dialect
- Language change over time
- Child Language Acquisition
The course includes a coursework folder featuring original writing and a language investigation project.
Modules:
- Year 1: Analyse spoken and written texts and study language variation influenced by gender, occupation, and social groups.
- Year 2: Study Child Language Acquisition and Language Change, develop article-writing skills, and complete the coursework folder with a storytelling piece and a data analysis project using linguistic theories.
